What to wear to work: MM Lafleur

With my recent move, I've been doing some major spring cleaning and have decided to streamline my closet to focus on investing in a few well tailored, key pieces that will last through the years (just check out my last post here).

In the process, I discovered MM.LaFleur - a start up founded by a Harvard/Bain/PE alum and an ex-Zac Posen/Jason Wu/Theory designer (can you say power duo?!), dedicated towards taking the work out of dressing for work.  I've heard about them for quite some time now but always found myself pressing Alt+F4 instead of click through to checkout on their website. Their dresses looked too simple and plain to pique my interest and the price point was a tad too steep to propel me towards any spontaneous purchases in the past. Recently though, I decided to give them another try and made an appointment to check out their Soho showroom instead.

And boy, was I glad.
(Although I must say the complimentary espresso/champagne definitely helped!)

I should have known better - for a designer who worked at Theory, of course the dresses would look drab and boring online. I shouldn't have been deterred by that, because like everything in Theory, once you put it on, it looks spectacular on you. Every dress I tried on fit me like a glove - highlighting curves I never knew I had and skimming over everything else.

It was tough to choose just one to take home, but I must say the Toi, with its A line skirt, simple stitching and beautiful teal/grey color won out in the end.

PS - If you live outside of NY or are too lazy to go check out their physical showroom, they also have a Bento Box, which sends you a one-time box of 5-8 hand selected pieces tailored to your style. You then have four days to try it on in the comforts of your home (no more pushy saleswomen/wearing the wrong bra fiasco!) and can send back whatever you don't like.

PPS - I'm obsessed with their blog Ampersand, Tory Hoen is a delightful writer.
